New Inland Terminal to Open New Opportunities in G

To pave way for economic opportunities aimed at Northwest Georgia and the whole region, Gov. Nathan Deal, the Georgia Ports Authority, Murray County and CSX Transportation signed a Memorandum of Agreement creating the Appalachian Regional Port in Chatsworth, Ga.

The Appalachian Regional Port is expected to generate and develop international markets for existing industries and further the economic success of the Southeastern U.S. The inland port is anticipated to offer imperative economic advantages to the region’s fundamental businesses. It will also feature a railroad terminal that will be used to transport goods from North Georgia, Alabama, East Tennessee and parts of Kentucky towards the port of Savannah, Ga.

“The public-private partnership established today, which includes direct rail access to the new inland port, will expand access for domestic and international shippers, providing increased options for cost-effective, environmentally friendly transportation services,” stressed Clarence Gooden, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of CSX Transportation.
