EU Aviation Package to Reinforce EU Aviation Secto

As Air Connectivity is viewed as a vital driver of commercial and social prosperity in European Union (EU), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) is calling on the European Commission to use the Aviation Package in bolstering EU’s aviation sector and its connectivity.

The air transportation in EU supports more than 9 million jobs constituting an absolute strategic significance to Europe and its people. However, in an interview, Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO underscored that the global landscape of aviation is rapidly changing andEurope’s airlines are struggling. The Director noted that this is due to unreasonable taxes, costly inefficient infrastructure, and regulations unfit for purpose. Tyler added that European airlines will soon struggle in matching the investment plans of their international rivals which would greatly affect jobs and global connectivity.

By using the Aviation Package, the EU’s aviation sector shall be reinforced in diverse areas such as security, passenger taxes, consumer protection, carbon emissions and air traffic modernization.

Tyler said that the EU commission must understand the need and significance of delivering new momentum in its aviation sector to drive for a globally sustainable industry.
